The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary tenure‐track appointment in Structural Engineering specialized in Infrastructure Protection at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning July 1, 2021.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking to hire an outstanding faculty member with strong background in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline in the area of infrastructure protection. The department is particularly interested to receive applications from candidates with demonstrated research expertise in, but not limited to, protection of infrastructure, assessment of critical infrastructure, extreme load effects on structures, blast‐resistant design of structures, retrofit addressing structural vulnerabilities.
We encourage applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in Engineering and/or with experience in mentoring students from such groups.
About the Academic Unit:
The Department offers dynamic, innovative, and cross‐disciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and undergraduate program in Architectural Conservation and Sustainability. The Department has diverse expertise over a wide range of experimental, numerical, and analytical research areas in geotechnical, environmental, fire safety, structural and transportation engineering. Graduate programs are offered through the Ottawa‐Carleton Institutes for Civil Engineering and for Environmental Engineering to provide further strength and opportunities. The Department has a world‐class strong floor facility and recently established CFI funded multi‐hazard test facility for built infrastructure protection and resilience. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of or commitment to research excellence through high quality publications; have the strong ability to develop an externally funded, high quality research program; will be passionate about effective teaching with demonstrated or strong evidence of potential of teaching excellence; and contribute to the academic life of the Department. Synergy to establish collaborative research links with existing members of the Department and across the University is highly desirable.
Membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required at the time of appointment or within three years of appointment.
