The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant/associate professor level in robotics. The appointment would be effective as early as August 2026.

We seek applicants with research and teaching interests related to robotics, with a focus on mechanical design, materials, autonomy, AI, and control systems. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that includes fundamental and/or applied research. The candidate should be able to teach and develop courses in robotics related subjects at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required. 


Oakland University is a nationally recognized doctoral research institution located on 1,143 acres of scenic land in the cities of Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills in Oakland County, Michigan. The University has 132 bachelor’s degree programs and 138 graduate degree and certificate programs. Academics include programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Education and Human Services, School of Medicine and School of Nursing.


The Mechanical Engineering Department has 23 full time faculty members who are dedicated to excellence in research, teaching and service. The department hosts four material focused centers:  the Automotive Tribology Center, NSF IUCRC – Center for Industrial Metal Forming (CIMF), Fastening and Joining Research Institute (FAJRI), and the NSF IUCRC – Center for Composite and Hybrid Materials Interfacing (CHMI), all of which are active in research.
