The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Arizona invites applications for full or part- time, career track, non-tenure eligible, year-to-year lecturer positions for the upcoming academic year beginning August 2018. There is a promotion path through three ranks-lecturer, senior lecturer, and principal lecturer. Candidates interested in more responsibilities will be considered for promotion to teaching professor based on annual performance reviews, peer evaluation, and department teaching needs.
The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering resides within the UA College of Engineering, with 21 faculty members, approximately 325 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate students. The department offers BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in chemical engineering and environmental engineering. The department is known for its academic rigor, and close and supportive working relationships between faculty and students. The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering supports the UA’s diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. Duties & Responsibilities:
Teach lecture-based core chemical engineering courses in the undergraduate program (lecture courses are 3 units each and meet for 3 hours each week). We especially have a need for someone with experience and a desire to teach teaching senior design (ChEE 442/443) and process control (ChEE 413).
Prepare and use course and classroom instructional materials that use evidence-based practices which may include peer instruction, active learning, team teaching, flipped classrooms, or other methods.
Hold regular office hours to respond to needs of undergraduate students and graduate teaching assistants.
Serve on department committees as appropriate.
Other duties may be assigned.
o 1.00 FTE (full-time equivalent) Lecturer will teach 6 courses plus serve on department committees.
o 0.50 FTE (full-time equivalent) Lecturer will teach 4 courses.
A PhD in chemical engineering or related field.
At least 2 years of teaching experience at the university level including serving as a teaching assistant while earning a PhD degree.
