Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Summary/Duties:
The Mechanical Engineering Department at The University of Memphis invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting August 2025. The appointed faculty member will undertake research and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in all areas related to advanced manufacturing, with particular interest in fatigue and fracture of metal additively-manufactured parts.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field by the expected start date.
Advanced ABDs will be considered, but doctoral degree must be earned by the start date of the position.

The Department and the Herff College of Engineering have many partnerships with these and other local industries for both research and education applications.
The University of Memphis is the largest public university and engineering program in western Tennessee, with an enrollment of about 22,000 students and is as one of two flagship Carnegie R1 public institutions in the State of Tennessee. The Herff College of Engineering at The University of Memphis is nationally ranked in both its undergraduate and graduate programs. Our mission is to educate students from diverse backgrounds through multi-disciplinary approaches. The Department currently has 14 faculty members and an enrollment of about 350 students pursuing B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. A state-of-the-art Metal Additive Manufacturing Laboratory which houses two laser powder bed fusion printers and the Fatigue and Fracture Research Laboratory which houses several servo-hydraulic uniaxial and multiaxial fatigue testing machines are available. A new research building that houses the Advanced Manufacturing research Laboratory and other research laboratories, which was opened in September 2024, complements the existing research laboratories.
