The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (SEMTE) seek applicants for positions of Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Assistant Teaching Professor in the area of Aerospace and/or Mechanical Engineering. Appointment will be at the rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2025. 

The School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy houses undergraduate and graduate programs in Aerospace, Chemical, Materials, and Mechanical Engineering. SEMTE is one of the eight schools within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, the largest and one of the most innovative research engineering colleges in the nation. The college, which serves a large and diverse student body, is a recognized leader in engineering education and is committed to teaching excellence.

Teaching faculty members in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering programs are expected to develop and adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of large-enrollment undergraduate and graduate courses in both immersion and online settings. The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering support the teaching faculty in these efforts by offering many resources through the Learning and Teaching Hub. These resources include best-practices seminars hosted by the Teaching Community of Practice, guidance for general Course Development, and information about leveraging Learning Technology, among others. Additional expectations include supervising undergraduate and master’s student research and projects, and undertaking service activities. 

 

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment

 

Desired qualifications:  

  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: astronautical engineering, aeronautical engineering, engineering design, autonomous systems and control
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, as appropriate to the candidate’s experience and rank
  • Commitment to delivering courses in multiple technology-enhanced formats and to curriculum development and innovative pedagogy
