The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Head of the School of Chemical Engineering (CHE). The successful candidate must be qualified for appointment as a full professor and hold an earned doctorate in chemical, biomedical, petroleum engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates should have a distinguished, internationally recognized record of scholarship, teaching, and leadership; a strong record of externally-funded research; interest in advancing education programs with a balance between undergraduate and graduate levels; demonstrated leadership experience; desire to develop multi-disciplinary programs; strong communication and interpersonal skills; and an unwavering drive for success of the unit.
We are in the midst of an aggressive college strategic plan to increase both breadth and depth of our contributions in the fields of chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, and petroleum engineering. A newly built 72,000 sf undergraduate teaching laboratory providing a multidisciplinary, learning environment/maker space for all undergraduates in the college was just launched. The 17 tenured/tenure-track (TT) faculty, 2 instructors, 6 staff, 400 undergraduates, and 35 graduate students occupy 17,000 sf of totally renovated office and student/classroom space. We offer BS, MS, and PhD degrees in chemical engineering, an undergraduate minor in petroleum engineering (available to all engineering disciplines), and an MS degree in petroleum engineering. The BS program in Chemical Engineering has long been ABET accredited. Approval to offer a PhD degree in petroleum engineering is expected in the current year. Addition of a graduate-only program in biomedical engineering is under evaluation. The School Head is responsible for managing all of these programs with the assistance of a petroleum engineering program director and reports to the CEAT Dean.
The School recently celebrated its 100-year anniversary and is in the midst of a highly successful campaign to create large endowments to fund growth and new initiatives. The School has six endowed chairs and one Professorship. Twelve of the seventeen tenured/tenure-track (TT) faculty joined the School in the past four years. The talent, drive, and commitment of the faculty are unique and unbounded. Sixteen of the 17 TT faculty are research active with 50% or greater research appointments. Research interests and capabilities are broad, reflecting the many new additions to the team. OSU students have won the AIChE Student Problem Design Competition (team) more times than any other school in the country. We have sent students to top graduate and professional programs throughout the world. The successful candidate will have significant resources available to move the School to the next level.
