Job Summary

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering (MANE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Nuclear Engineering. The emphasis is on individuals at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels. Exceptionally qualified individuals in all areas of nuclear engineering are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in topics related to radiation detection, nuclear data, and ability to conduct research with the RPI linear accelerator. In MANE, we value diversity, which broadens our perspectives and enriches our research and teaching activities.

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field. The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate the potential to carry out the following duties: develop and maintain an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary program of funded research in Nuclear Engineering, to actively contribute to the core graduate and undergraduate teaching mission of MANE, and engage in department, institute, and professional service activities.
This is an exciting time to be a part of MANE and Rensselaer.

MANE is undergoing unprecedented growth across all three disciplines with a dynamic cadre of recent faculty hires. Our research addresses some of the world’s most pressing technological challenges—from energy and sustainable development to materials, manufacturing, controls, adaptive and resilient systems, biotechnology, and human health. Faculty have access to world-class research facilities and an atmosphere that promotes interdisciplinary collaborations. The Gaerttner LINAC Center includes a high power 50 MeV electron LINAC currently undergoing an upgrade to 140 MeV. This facility provides access to intense pulsed electron, photon, and neutron beams. The research at this center is focused on nuclear data for nuclear reactors and criticality safety applications. Other research activities include medical isotope production, and radiation damage to electronics. In addition, the Nuclear Engineering Program at Rensselaer includes several other teaching and research laboratories. These facilities provide an excellent opportunity to develop unique leading research and teaching programs.
