The Mechanical Engineering Department at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions; one position in the general area of thermal/fluids and the other in the area of mechanics/mechanical design.
The successful candidate for the thermo-fluids position should have experience with computational modeling/CFD and should also be prepared to teach courses at the undergraduate level in thermodynamics, fluids and heat transfer. This position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level, commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
For the mechanics/mechanical design position it is desired that the candidate have experience in one or more of the following areas: materials, manufacturing, and/or computational methods (e.g., FEA, MBD). The candidate should also be prepared to teach undergraduate level courses in statics, dynamics, solid mechanics and machine design. This position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
Candidates for either position must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, or a related discipline, and must have excellent teaching and communication skills. Industry experience is beneficial. The appointment begins August 2023.
The Mechanical Engineering program is ABET accredited and is wholly undergraduate. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate mechanical engineering courses, mechanical design courses, advise/supervise student projects and research, and enhance current departmental research areas.
VMI is a public, four-year undergraduate military college for men and women (1700 students) located in the historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. All faculty members are required to wear a military uniform. However, prior military service is not required. More information about the VMI can be found at http://www.vmi.edu.
