Aalto University is the forerunner in Finland in the area of space science and technology education, research and applications. Aalto University has created and successfully launched first Finnish satellite missions; Aalto-1 and Aalto-2. Currently Aalto is building next satellite missions in the framework of Finnish Centre of Excellence (2018-2025) in Sustainable Space Science and Technology. We are working closely with local space industry on CubeSat platforms, deorbiting technologies and satellite reliability.
We are looking for a resourceful and talented doctoral graduate to join the space technology development team to develop CubeSat platforms with increased reliability and radiation tolerance. This position gives you an opportunity to work with small satellite platform development, small satellite communication and microwave remote sensing instrumentation. The position provides also an opportunity to closely collaborate with Finnish Centers of Excellence on Sustainable Space and planned missions such as Aalto-3, Foresail-1 and Foresail-2. Active publication on small satellite topics is expected.
The work is carried out in the research team lead by Professor Jaan Praks in the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering. The university provides well-equipped laboratories and test facilities for small satellite development.
Proven track record in scientific work and a relevant PhD degree
Commitment and active participation on the group’s activities on space technology
Guiding of undergraduate and graduate students
Writing scientific papers jointly with the other members in the group
Hands-on experience with small satellite platform
Knowledge of electronics design
Experience in space systems testing
SALARY AND CONTRACT TERMS
The position will be initially filled for 2 years, with a possible extension up to 3 years. Expected starting salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is 3500-3800€/month, depending on experience and qualifications. The contract includes occupational health and social security benefits. We expect the candidate to be able to start in autumn 2018.
