Research assistant / Master’s thesis position in “Automatic generation of error correction suggestions for control programs of cyber-physical systems”

A research assistant position in “Automatic generation of error correction suggestions for control programs of cyber-physical systems” is available at the Information Technologies in Industrial Automation group (School of Electrical Engineering) at Aalto University.

Our research focuses on the engineering of software-intensive automation systems. We investigate enablers of future smart factories (Industry 4.0) from the industrial manufacturing, continuous processes, and energy management perspectives.

Your role and goals
We are looking for a research assistant to work with us on automatic repair of function block control programs of cyber-physical systems. The task is motivated by the problems of safety systems design in the Finnish nuclear industry. Cyber-physical systems in this domain should address specific functional and non-functional requirements. This task addresses the former. In our case, the control programs (controllers) of such systems are modeled as function block diagrams, where each block represents a function. Inputs of such a block are the function arguments. The first steps involving model checking (verification) of a controller of such systems and explanation of the verification result are done in a recently developed tool, Oeritte. Now, the goal is, having a failure trace, to enhance the explanation with a set of targeted failure locations and generate repair suggestions. Examples of control programs will be provided.
