Position Description

In order to solve society’s most pressing problems, enterprising faculty deserve the support and structure to work across disciplines. Housed at The University of Texas at Dallas, one of the fastest-growing universities in the United States, the Jonsson School has departments that are focused on five research thrusts of national significance. With a joint bioengineering building opening this fall at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a newly established Innovation Quarter launched with the City of Richardson to support entrepreneurship, tenure-system faculty will have the opportunity to excel together in the laboratory, the classroom, and the marketplace. We are hiring for multiple positions at all ranks in the research thrusts and individual departments for Advanced Manufacturing, Energy Science and Technology, Health Innovations, Semiconductor Science and Technology, and Transportation Science and Engineering.

The appointment commences for the fall 2024 semester.


Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline is required prior to employment; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Education and Experience: A PhD in a relevant discipline is required and experience working on multidisciplinary teams. 

The Department/Program/School

The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (The Jonsson School), home to six dynamic departments with a total of 254 faculty (biomedical, computer science, electrical and computer, materials science, mechanical, and systems), is one of the most rigorous, technologically advanced, and diverse programs in the country. Close connections exist between all these departments and local industry giving our students exceptional internship and employment opportunities. Currently, the school’s student enrollment is approximately 8,950. We serve as an economic engine of growth and innovation for North Texas with our focus on industry–relevant research and education. To that end, teams from our corporate-sponsored capstone program, UTDesign®, have taken top honors at national competitions in recent years, as well as founded startups. The Jonsson School has a legacy of inclusion, ranking in the top in the nation of number of degrees awarded to women in our oldest programs – computer science and electrical engineering.
