Subject: Seeking qualified candidates for post-doctoral research positions
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is seeking two postdoctoral candidates starting immediately to work on the development, synthesis, characterization, and testing of membrane materials for the targeted transport of specific ions.
Special emphasis is placed on recruiting candidates with significant and demonstrable experience in (1) the synthesis and characterization of ion exchange polymers and membranes or (2) the synthesis and characterization of inorganic and organic nanoparticles, and the fabrication of mixed matrix polymeric membranes. An ideal candidate will also have experience in operating membrane-based separation systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to take personal initiative to structure tasks to meet project functions and author novel publications. The candidate will also be expected to mentor students, teach courses in relation to expertise (if opportunity arises), fulfill project administration functions and assist in proposal development. The candidate is expected to meet programmed project goals, and can respond to deliverable timelines as are typical in "academia-industry" collaborative research.
All positions are programmed for a 1-year duration, but can be extended by mutual agreement. The postdoctoral candidates will be part of a team that includes graduate students and professors, including Prof. David Jassby, Prof. Eric Hoek, Prof. Gaurav Sant, and Prof. Dante Simonetti. The postdoctoral candidates will have opportunities to engage with commercial and national lab partners, as well.
1) PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or a closely related field.
2) Excellent communication skills, including writing, and a demonstrable publication record in the field.
3) Ability to work in a team environment.
4) Experience in technology transfer and process scale-up an advantage.
If you meet the above requirements and are interested in this position, please provide (as PDFs) to the contact noted below: a detailed resume, a short personal statement explaining your scientific and research, and contact information for three referees in support of your application.
