The Opportunity

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applicants for two full-time, 9-month, faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-earning) or associate professor (tenured). The positions will work in the areas of either:

(1) Next Generation High Performance Computing Systems

This faculty position would be a member of the Computer Engineering program in ECE. The research topics of interest include, but are not limited to, quantum computing, biologically inspired computing, optical computing, neuromorphic computing, and trusted computing. Desired skill set within the context of research areas of interest includes working familiarity with quantum computing architectures, quantum design automation, physical design, optimization and layout/tapeout, prototyping, fabrication processes, and tools for digital logic or quantum processing architectures. Complementary skills to UCF’s existing research programs are highly sought after.

(2) Quantum and Superconducting Devices and Circuits

This faculty position will be a joint member of the Electrical Engineering program in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), and the Physics program in the College of Sciences, with a tenure home in ECE. The research topics of interest include quantum heterostructures, spin-based electronics, Josephson junction quantum devices and circuits, superconducting circuits, and quantum sensors. Desired skill set within the confines of the research topics of interest includes working familiarity with materials growth, fabrication, design, and measurement of superconducting qubits, as well as the development of cryogenic packaging and control electronics, design and development of interfacing conventional electronics for quantum systems, and quantum information processing.

The successful candidates are expected to lead multidisciplinary collaborative research efforts to address the challenges of ensuring a leading position for the United States in the race to invent and manufacture the future computing technologies that surpass the limits of the conventional semiconductor technologies and to meaningfully contribute to the educational workforce development efforts that train the next generation of engineers who lead the charts in the semiconductor industry.
