The Artificial Organs Laboratory at the Department of Surgery of the University of Maryland Baltimore seeks highly motivated individuals for two postdoctoral research positions in the following areas: blood compatibility and design/development of blood contacting medical devices.
The lab is conducting applied cardiovascular research, engaged in research and development of blood-contacting artificial organs and biologic responses to these devices. The research activities are carried within a multidisciplinary research and design team consisting of clinicians, surgeons, scientists, engineers, residents, and students.
The applicants are expected to have a PhD degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, biology or relevant disciplines. The ideal candidates are preferred to have experience in the areas of biomechanics, blood cell mechanics, mathematical modeling, computational/numerical methods, morphological and functional analysis of blood cells.
