Regular-Term Position in Water Resources Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Memorial) invites applications for a three-year regular term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Water Resources Engineering. The position will commence January 1, 2024 or earliest thereafter.

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering or related areas, with a proven ability for excellence in both teaching and research. Desired areas of research should be in line with the Memorial Strategic Research Themes, and complementary to the current research areas in the Department of Civil Engineering. Demonstrated competencies or experience in the areas of water resources and hydrology including watershed modeling, contaminant transport and fate, water supply and systems planning. Experience with climate change impact and risk assessment, aquatic systems analysis or AI-aided decision making would be highly beneficial.

The successful candidate will participate in the academic programs of the Department of Civil Engineering, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising graduate students and other HQPs, and conducting other educational, scholarly, and professional activities. The successful candidate will be expected to secure research funding, build an active research program and team, and, as appropriate, collaborate with partners in industry, government, and academia.  Established research record will be an asset. An ability to teach a broad range of civil engineering courses (e.g., water resources and municipal engineering courses, related core civil engineering and first-year engineering courses, and certain courses associated with the Master of Applied Science in Environmental Systems Engineering and Management program) and established teaching record will be an asset. The successful candidate is expected to register as a professional engineer with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).
