The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of Materials Science and Engineering. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.

 

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Materials Science or a related area at the time of the appointment, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing Departmental strengths.  Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures.  Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrate interest in teaching-relate scholarly activities. It is strongly preferred that candidates have an undergraduate degree in engineering and be registered, or eligible for registration as, a Professional Engineer.

 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry, including in the development and delivery of undergraduate courses, as well as curriculum development. This will be demonstrated by strong communication skills evident throughout the application process; a teaching dossier that includes a compelling statement of teaching highlighting areas of interest, awards, accomplishments and teaching philosophy; sample course syllabi and materials; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference from referees of high standing that endorse excellent teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and teaching innovation.
