The CSE department at UNT offers a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering, M. S. degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Data Engineering, and ABET-accredited B. S. degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, an ABET-accredited B. A. degree in Information Technology, and a new B. S. degree in Cybersecurity. The UNT CSE department houses The Center for Information and Cyber Security (CICS) (https://cics.unt.edu/). In addition, UNT is the lead institution for the NSF Net-centric & Cloud Software & Systems (NCSS) (https://netcentric.unt.edu/) Industry-/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC). The annual research expenditure of the CSE department is $2.5M with funding from the NSF, DOD, DOE, NIH, and industry. The vibrant UNT College of Engineering, located in the 590,000 square foot main building on the 300-acre Discovery Park campus in Denton, TX, has more than 100 faculty members. The college’s faculty also boast three National Academy memberships, more than 20 faculty fellowships across more than 15 societies, and five NSF CAREER Awards. The college is equipped with numerous state-of-the-art facilities including a recent $10 million boost to the Center for Agile and Adaptive Additive Manufacturing. The college has hired 9 tenure and tenure track faculty this year and has a goal to expand the college faculty by 50% in the next 5 years.
The UNT Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) (computerscience.engineering.unt.edu) is seeking nominations or applications for the chairperson position. The CSE department is home to 9 Professors, 11 Associate Professors, 7 Assistant Professors, 5 Lecturers, over 100 Ph.D. students, over 180 master’s students, and over 1300 bachelor’s students. Over 17 faculty members have joined the CSE department since 2010, and we are continuing to expand. Faculty members in the department have received the NSF CAREER Award each year in recent years.
Nominees or applicants must have: an earned doctorate relevant to a program in computer science and engineering and achievements commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor in Computer Science and Engineering department. In addition, the candidate is expected to have an excellent record of scholarship and external funding, prior academic experience in a US institution, and a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness as well as shared governance while maintaining a good working relationship with the College Dean and upper administration. The candidate is expected to have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to lead and manage, and to work with faculty and administration. Applicants are sought at the Professor level with salary, benefits, and a teaching load typical for a major research university.
- Experience in developing external partnerships to promote research and education and to raise the level of funding for the faculty.
- Ability to work effectively with the Dean to advance the department.
- Knowledge and/or experience with both Computer Science and Computer Engineering disciplines.
- Knowledge of ABET accreditation standards and procedures.
