Departmental Overview
The IGI is a multidisciplinary research laboratory focused on genome engineering and potential applications in agriculture, microbiology, and biomedicine. It is a joint venture between UC Berkeley, UC Davis and UC San Francisco, with the administrative operations located on the Berkeley campus. This position is located at the UC Berkeley campus.
Position Summary
Experienced professional who will, in addition to performing general maintenance and upkeep, work with Principal Investigators and their researchers to design, program and execute custom automation workflows, and recover, integrate and analyze data on a Hudson Robotics automated culturomics system. The position will include similar responsibilities for other equipment such as a Hamilton Starlet Robot.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with principal investigators and their researchers to design and program general protocols (e.g. DNA extraction) for the Hamilton Starlet Robot in Rm. 142.
- Working with principal investigators and their researchers, design, program, and execute custom automation workflows on the Hudson Robotics automated culturomics system.
- Working with principal investigators and their researchers, recover, integrate, and potentially analyze data from the Hudson Robotics automated culturomics system.
- Integrate standardized data outputs from Hudson Robotics culturomics systems into a format that can be easily analyzed by researchers.
- Perform general maintenance and upkeep on the Hudson Robotics automated culturomics system.
- Assess and troubleshoot simple technical and mechanical failures of Hamilton and Hudson robotic laboratory automation systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge and experience with engineering principles and methods to independently perform the full range of engineering professional design work.
- Thorough knowledge necessary to apply principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments.
- Demonstrated organizational and decision-making abilities to prioritize competing work assignments in order to meet deadlines and adherence to quality standards.
- Strong analytical and judgment skills to independently conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations.
- Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative manner; identify challenges and barriers and recommend resolutions.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to lead and influence others.
- Expert working knowledge of C/C++, python, JavaScript, Unreal Engine.
- Ability to interpret and determine validity of data and check own work.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted annual salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $88,900.00 - $120,000.00.
