DESCRIPTION:
The School of Electrical and Information Engineering invites applications for appointments at the levels of Professor or Associate Professor in Telecommunications. Degrees in the School are internationally recognised and a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes are offered. The school has a strong team of dedicated staff and excellent facilities.
The applicant must have relevant experience in the field of telecommunications engineering.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
At Professor level, a PhD in a related field and a First Degree in Electrical Engineering is essential. A research record of peer-reviewed publications with at least 1000 citations on Google Scholar or Scopus is required. The successful candidate will have a track record of successful supervision of at least (10) MSc’s by research and at least (3) PhD students. Teaching experience at a tertiary level is essential. S/he must have a proven track record in telecommunications and the intention to continue research in the field of telecommunications. South African citizens and permanent residents currently employed in academia must be in possession of a National Research Foundation (NRF) rating (https://www.nrf.ac.za/rating/). Applicants from industry and international applicants must have a research profile that meets the requirements for an NRF rating. Registration as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), or eligibility for international applicants is recommended.
OR
At Associate Professor Level, a PhD in a related field and a First Degree in Electrical Engineering is essential. A research record of peer-reviewed publications with at least 500 citations on Google Scholar or Scopus is required. The successful candidate will have a track record of successful supervision of at least (5) MSc and (2) PhD students. Teaching experience at a tertiary level is essential. S/he must have a proven track record in telecommunications and the intention to continue research in the field of telecommunications. South African citizens and permanent residents currently employed in academia must be in possession of a National Research Foundation (NRF) rating (https://www.nrf.ac.za/rating/). Applicants from industry and international applicants must have a research profile that meets the requirements for an NRF rating. Registration as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), or eligibility for international applicants is recommended.
DUTIES:
- To teach telecommunications and signal processing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as a variety of other undergraduate level courses as required.
- To lead the telecommunications research group, including sourcing research funds from industry and funding agencies.
- To undertake various administrative duties in the school.
- To contribute towards the research output of the school (peer-reviewed publications in DHET-approved journals).
- To conceptualize and supervise the capstone telecommunications design project for a group of about 15 – 20 final year undergraduate engineering students.
- To conceptualize and supervise the capstone projects for (2) two or (3) three pairs of final-year undergraduate engineering students.
- To supervise postgraduate students in the school.
