Postdoctoral Scholar position

Area: Multi-modal Biosensors
Duration: 16+ months
Start date: Immediate*
Salary: $45,000 CAD to $55,000 CAD per year, plus University of Calgary Plan C Benefits

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing and Biomedical Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the areas of biosensors.

Job Description:
A position is available in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary for a postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary team developing a novel way to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and biomarkers related to various human diseases. The work will also involve the development, design, modelling, testing and application aspects of multi-modal biosensors.

This project is a part of MITACS Accelerate/Elevate project. The postdoctoral researcher will be closely collaborating with the company sponsor and will be expected to work from the company up to 25% of the time. In addition, the researcher would mentor other team members.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Engineering and Science or a related field with a focus in one or more areas, including biosensor design and fabrication, nanomaterials for sensor application, quartz crystal balance (QCM) sensors, cancer research, etc.
  • The applicant should be motivated and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The successful candidates will have a proven record of success and be able to conduct research independently as well as be part of a team.

To be eligible as a Postdoctoral scholar at the University of Calgary, you must have been awarded a PhD or equivalent within the five (5) years immediately preceding the appointment. Please review the Postdoc Eligibility Guidelines for more information prior to applying for this position.
