The Department of Mechanical Engineering (www.niu.edu/ceet/ME/) within the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology at Northern Illinois University (NIU) anticipates hiring a tenure-track faculty position with specialization in manufacturing processes at the level of assistant professor rank starting August 2020.
The department offers degrees from B.S. to Ph.D. and currently has 17 faculty members, about 565 undergraduate students and 75 graduate students. The NIU engineering program is ranked at 38 by the U.S. News and World Report for Engineering Programs (with no doctorates).
Position Description: The Assistant Professor is expected to serve as a vibrant instructor for both undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct externally funded research, publish in archival journals, supervise undergraduate and graduate students in engaged and experiential learning programs, collaborate with regional stake holders, and expand partnership with industry. The research agenda of the faculty member should expand the department portfolio in manufacturing processes including potential areas such as digital manufacturing methods, intelligent material processing, additive manufacturing methods using classical or hybrid materials, conventional manufacturing processes, metrology and inspection methods for production quality, data-driven computational methods, multi-scale modeling of manufacturing processes, or other related topics.
