    Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture

    The Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering & Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for Research Visionary position as part of the expansion plans of the newly-endowed Faculty. The primary mission of this position is to form imaginative cross-disciplinary research teams and projects from previously unexploited combinations of human and other resources available at MSFEA, AUB, and beyond. Ultimately, these teams and projects should lead to novel research centers. In addition, candidates will work with faculty to develop highly competitive extramural grant applications and proposals to international funding agencies (such as, EU, NSF and NIH) in engineering and the sciences. S/he will advise MSFEA faculty on aspects of grant proposal development and management.

    The ideal candidate will be aware of emerging research funding opportunities, hold a strong research record including a highly successful career of funded grant applications, be committed to research in the service of humanity, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills. S/he should hold a doctoral degree with experience in academic, government, or private institutions.

    With a total enrollment of approximately 2800 undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students, MSFEA is comprised of approximately 100 professorial rank and 60 part-time faculty members, and houses six departments: Architecture and Design, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Mechanical Engineering, and graduate programs in Biomedical Engineering and Urban Design, Planning, and Policy. Our undergraduate engineering degree programs are ABET accredited.

    Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut bases its educational philosophy, standards, and practices on the American liberal arts model of higher education. A teaching-centered research university, AUB has approximately 700 full-time faculty members and 8000 students from more than 60 countries. It offers programs leading to the bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The student body is 50 percent female, and the language of instruction is English. Set on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the University has a green campus dotted with historic and contemporary buildings, a state of the art athletics complex, and is located in the heart of the vibrant city of Beirut which offers numerous venues for the arts, entertainment, and community engagement. It is also located less than one hour’s drive from the ski slopes of Mt. Lebanon, and a wide variety of hiking, caving, and cycling terrain.
