  • Multiple Instructional Positions in Engineering Technology

    The Engineering Technology Department at The University of Toledo, one of six departments within the College of Engineering, invites applications for multiple instructional positions in the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology programs. The positions include both lecturer and tenure-track positions, and are expected to begin August 2019.

    Engineering Technology programs provide an outstanding preparation for students to assume varied roles in industry: graduates have found success in multiple areas, including automotive design and parts fabrication, industrial tool and process design, automation and controls design, and project management.

    Candidates for the tenure-track position should possess an earned Ph. D. in engineering or a closely aligned field; candidates for the lecturer positions should possess a graduate degree in engineering or a closely aligned field, or equivalent professional training and/or industry experience. Areas of expertise desired for these faculty positions include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following: materials science, design documentation, digital design and fabrication processes, power systems, and controls engineering. Demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching is required. Additionally, five years of industrial experience, a professional engineering license, and experiences in sustainability or industrial management are preferred. A record of relevant research and professional activity and engagement with service activities at the community or national level, innovation in teaching pedagogy at the undergraduate course level, and engagement with undergraduate research and projects are desired.

    The candidate’s application should convey a robust teaching background with experience in lectures, recitations, and laboratory sessions. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to engineering technology and the role of a technology-based education within the engineering education community and industry.

    Application requirements: a letter expressing interest in the specific position, a curriculum vitae, and a teaching or academic portfolio that contain narratives describing teaching, research, and service activities, and sufficient documentation to support the narratives. Finalist candidates will be expected to present a teaching module for evaluation and to convey his or her own expanded vision for the position and the candidate’s role within the Engineering Technology Department.
