  • Postdoc in Heterogeneous Catalysis and In Situ/Operando Spectroscopy
International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER)
    Kyushu University

    Description:
A postdoc position is available to study catalytic CO2 conversion (both electrochemically and thermally) in the group of Prof. Miho Yamauchi at the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER) of Kyushu University in Japan. You will be mainly engaged (but not limited) to synthesize nanomaterials for highly active and selective CO2 conversion, and also to advance fundamental aspects of reaction mechanisms by means of in situ/operando IR/XAS spectroscopy. You will also have an opportunity to learn a state-of-the-art spectroscopic technique, modulation excitation spectroscopy combined with ATR-IR and XAS.

    Qualifications
A successful candidate should have a PhD (or expected to obtain a PhD before starting date) and hands-on experience with heterogeneous catalysis and material chemistry. Those who are enthusiastic about fabricating innovative inorganic materials are highly welcome even if you have little experience in catalysis. Knowledge about in situ/operando IR/XAS spectroscopy is not necessary only if you are eager to learn it under the professional supervision in our group.

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to
    - scientific productivity and potential at international level
    - the ability to generate new ideas and to translate them into action
    - the ability to communicate scientific results at all levels
    - good command of written and spoken English

Start date: as soon as possible (negotiable).

Benefits: I2CNER is one of the international centres in Japan run by “World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI Program)”. I2CNER is an internationally recognized leader in carbon-neutral and energy research and possesses a number of advanced characterization instruments. Our group tries to think outside the box, so that you have opportunities to challenge yourself to new research directions (e.g. catalysis, material synthesis, spectroscopic technique, reactor design). The details about the group can be found at:

For further information, please contact Prof. Miho Yamauchi (yamauchi@i2cner.kyushu-u.ac.jp) at Kyushu University.

Please apply by email (yamauchi@i2cner.kyushu-u.ac.jp) with a letter of motivation (A4, 1 page) and curriculum vitae including publication list, full academic records and at least 2 contact prsons to whom your qualifications can be referred.
