  • Tenure-track Faculty position in Electrical Engineering

    The School of Engineering within Grand Valley State University’s Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering and Computing invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. This position is within the electrical or computer engineering programs and involves teaching in support of our Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) and Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) programs at all levels from first-year courses through graduate-level studies, curriculum development, professional and university service, and scholarship. This position will support the continued growth of GVSU’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs.

    The Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs offer BSE (ABET-accredited) and MSE degrees. The BSE programs include an extensive experiential learning component and a three-semester mandatory co-operative education experience through an alliance with local industry partners. The MSE program emphasizes professional practice as well as applied research. Our graduates are fully prepared to meet the demands of the industrial workplace or continue advanced studies.

    Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctorate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field. Applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. They must be committed to the highest quality of laboratory and project-based teaching along with scholarly and professional development. Applicants with expertise in all areas of electrical and computer engineering are encouraged to apply. Applicants must possess expertise with electronic instrumentation and proficiency in structured programming languages.

    Preferred Qualifications: The following expertise areas are particularly sought: embedded systems, real-time OS, electronic materials and devices, and electric and hybrid vehicle systems. Additional preferred qualifications include experience related to teaching, practice, recruiting and managing projects, collaborating with industrial partners, or securing external funding.

    Responsibilities: This position involves teaching in our undergraduate and graduate engineering programs, service to the unit, college, university, and community, and professional development (including scholarship). Faculty are expected to teach introductory classes across the EE and CE curriculum in addition to teaching advanced courses in their area of expertise. This includes developing and delivering their own teaching materials and providing detailed and prompt feedback to their students. Instructors are expected to demonstrate excellent laboratory skills, manage class projects, and foster a hands-on learning environment.
