    About the opportunity

    The School of Project Management at the University of Sydney aims to deliver world class research, teaching for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and executive education and engagement.

    The taught program courseware is accredited by the Global Accreditation Center of the Project Management Institute. It builds the capacity of graduates to examine the key interdependencies inherent in managing and leading complex projects. The program engages with these dynamics to develop skills for effective planning, management and leadership.     The School of Project Management is located in the Faculty of Engineering, providing opportunities to build collaborations to study engineering, software and other forms of projects. Associated with the School of Project Management is the John Grill Institute for Project Leadership, a cross-sectoral, multi-disciplinary institute that draws together leading researchers across the University and is working with leading industry, government and policy to develop new insight into how we conceive, set-up, delivery and gain value from projects. Research draws lessons across infrastructure, software and organisational change projects. Research through the Institute is on project leadership covers project sponsorship, project governance, project management and related topics, including:

    • Project models and digital transformation
    • Organizational dynamics of projects
    • Projects for sustainable and resilient futures

    The School of Project Management at the University of Sydney is searching for faculty members that work in any aspect of project, program, and portfolio organising, candidates whose work draws novel insights into the field of project management and project studies , and candidates taking an interdisciplinary approach to projects.

    In this role you will be asked to design and deliver world-leading teaching and research into project, program and/or portfolio management. Preference will be given to people that have or are developing a track record of excellence in research within the project studies or project management area, and have a proven ability to bring this expertise into the classroom. Those working in a closely related research field that know the research literature on project, program and/or portfolio management will also be considered. A history of project research that is transferrable between industry sectors is desirable.

    The School of Project Management includes education programs ranging from short courses through to corporate executive education as well as undergraduate and masters coursework programs. Demonstrated ability to delivery executive education will be advantageous

    • completed, or is near completion of, a Ph.D. in a project management related area
    • project management, undergraduate and / or postgraduate course development skills, inspired by academic research excellence and industry engaged inquiry
    • quality teaching and learning delivery approaches
    • a track record of or potential to securing external funding and producing high-quality, independent and collaborative research
    • a track record of or evidence of potential for publication in leading international peer reviewed journals, with a commensurate citation impact
    • experience in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students
    • the ability to develop new areas of curriculum should the need arise
    • potential for or demonstration of industry interaction and liaison
    • the ability to contribute to the administration of the School, the University and the wider community

    The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience and knowledge.

    The appointees will contribute to academic scholarship, research excellence and community service at the University of Sydney.

    Term and Remuneration

    Successful candidates will be offered continuing full-time appointment. A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated dependent of level of appointment. Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
