    Job Summary


    This is a two year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment will be contingent upon availability of funding.

    This is a pool posting for future vacancies in this job classification. Applications will be considered active for a period of six months from the posting date

    The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is seeking candidates for multiple positions for Research Engineers. A Research Engineer conducts research in various fields of engineering to design and develop technology and to carry out investigations, evaluation, and application of engineering theories and principles. These positions will be based on two-year terms which will be renewable based on performance and abilities to secure and support externally funded research.

    Essential Functions


    Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

    Performs a variety of research and development activities requiring the application of engineering practices and principles.

    Designs, operates, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and engineered systems utilizing engineering practices and principles.

    Advises faculty, postdocs, students, and staff with engineering design, modification, prototype and process development, analysis procedures, and other engineering solutions.

    Performs failure analysis, optimization studies and other investigations.

    Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, equipment, or processes.

    Ensures supplies are available and operational for use in projects.

    May manage local computer systems for laboratory functionality.

    Develops proposals, budgets, schedules and progress reports and presents results to internal and external stakeholders.

    Prepares technical reports for long and short-range planning.


    Minimum Education and Experience

     



    Education LevelBachelor's Degree from an accredited institutionField of Study
    Engineering to include: Aerospace, Biosystems, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Computer Science and Software, Electrical and Computer, Industrial and Systems, Mechanical and Materials at the time employment begins.

    Years of ExperienceLevel I requires no experienceArea of Experience
    Experience in engineering and research practices and principles in microelectronics, automotive electronics, highway research, robotics and autonomous systems, metallurgy and materials, asphalt technology, pulp and paper, transportation, energy technology, detection and food safety, cyber-security and information technology.

    Level II- 2 years; Level III-4 years; Level IV-6 years; Level V- 8 years; Level VI- 10 years
