    Faculty Positions in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)

    The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering ( at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of Construction and Infrastructure Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Geosystems Engineering. Applicants will be considered at all ranks, with a preference for the Assistant Professor rank, in the following particular areas:

    • In Construction and Infrastructure Systems Engineering (CISE), one priority area focuses on generative AI in Construction to enable smart, sustainable, resilient, and healthy built environments that enhance societal quality of life. The areas of particular interest include Metaverse, Digital Twins, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), human-building interaction, human-technology interaction, lifecycle analysis of infrastructure, and Automation & Robotics. Areas of specific teaching interest focus on core construction engineering and management topics, including BIM, scheduling, cost estimating, construction law, and innovation in construction.

    • In Environmental Engineering (ENVE), we are seeking candidates in areas aligning with our strategic focus on local, regional, and global-scale air quality with engineering linkages to policy, control, and health. Particular emphasis is given to the topic of climate change and its atmospheric impacts. This area addresses the CEE cross-cutting themes of Healthy Communities and Sustainable Systems, as well as the grand challenges in environmental engineering identified by the 2019 National Academies report.

    • In Geosystems Engineering (GEO), we are seeking candidates with an emphasis on geomechanics in the context of climate change, sustainable/resilient urban geotechnics, as well as new developments in novel sensing, testing or data analysis techniques associated with infrastructure construction and/or performance under normal and extreme loading.

    Outstanding faculty candidates in other areas of Civil Engineering including Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials (SEMM), Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE), and Water Resources Engineering (WRE) will also be considered. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.

    Job Responsibilities

    CEE faculty are expected to lead independent research at the cutting edge of their field and build a strong, extramurally funded research program and national/international recognition. In addition, they are expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses, mentor a diverse student body, and conduct service to the school, institute, and profession.

    Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

    An earned doctorate is required by the start of the appointment. Successful candidates have an exemplary track record of research accomplishments as well as expertise or demonstrated interest in teaching and mentoring a diverse student body and service.

     About the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology

    The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech currently has over 600 undergraduate students, nearly 400 graduate students, and 54 tenure-track faculty members. Women comprise 47% of the undergraduate population, and more than 26% of the undergraduate student population identifies as a member of under-represented minority groups. Thirteen faculty members are women, and seven faculty members identify as a member of under-represented minority groups. Twenty-five faculty members hold endowed chairs or professorships with 30% of them being women faculty.
