The College of Engineering and Computing at the University of South Carolina is in the process of expanding its tenured and tenure-track ranks significantly in the next several years. As part of this growth, the Department of Chemical Engineering is looking for dynamic tenured and tenure-track faculty members for Fall 2024.

Applicants at all ranks are encouraged to apply.

Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank must possess a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering or a related field by the time of appointment, plus demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research. Successful candidates at this rank will be expected to develop and sustain an internationally recognized research program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor and Full Professor must also have years of relevant academic experience commensurate with academic policy, plus a strong, sustained record of excellence in teaching and research, including competitive funding and interdisciplinary collaborations. Successful candidates at this rank will also show future plans to further grow their research activities and how they plan to show leadership in new initiatives within the college.

We seek candidates to support university-wide and state-wide initiatives related to batteries for EV and grid-scale applications. Recently, the state of SC has seen a large amount of private investment (>$10B) in this area in the state, which is expected to create 10,000+ jobs over the next decade. It is the goal of USC to build on our already strong team in this area (15 faculty, ~50 graduate students) to support this industry which is rapidly growing in our state and throughout the Southeast U.S. - including the creation of the Creation of the Carolina Institute for Battery Innovation (CIBI). Specific research areas of interest for this search include: i) new chemistries and active materials; ii) solidstate electrolytes; iii) continuum-scale modeling and systems modeling; iv) battery safety and reliability; and v) novel approaches to recycling.

Review of applications will begin May 1, 2024 and continue until positions are filled. The expected start date is August 16, 2024. Interested applicants must apply via USC Jobs https://uscjobs.sc.edu/postings/166050
