    The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position. We seek to hire innovative teacher-scholars to begin in Fall 2025. A completed Ph.D. in civil/structural/geotechnical engineering must be held by August 15, 2025.  As teacher-scholars we integrate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with Ignatian pedagogy, which is fundamentally structured on experience, reflection, and action.  Faculty members who are engaged in scholarly inquiry play a critical role in LMU's teaching mission and improve our educational effectiveness. They critically assess the curriculum, foster a culture of inquiry, and make possible hands-on learning experiences for students.   


    Candidates are sought with expertise in structures/geotechnical engineering.  The ideal candidate would be able to teach courses in structural engineering and be able to support geotechnical/general civil instructional needs.     The CEE department has a rich tradition of teaching excellence dedicated to offering our students a balance of both the practical and theoretical aspects of civil and environmental engineering. The department typically serves approximately 100 undergraduates and 20 graduate students and offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Engineering (specializing in environmental and water-resources engineering) and Environmental Science.  Undergraduate areas of emphasis include geotechnical, structural, environmental, and water resources engineering.  See http://cse.lmu.edu/department/civilengineering for additional information.

    • Teach a variety of classes in structural and geotechnical engineering at the undergraduate level within and outside of one’s primary areas of expertise 



    • Have a clear thriving research program that encourages the inclusion of undergraduate students 



    • Participate in service activities at the academic, professional, and/or community levels 



    • Have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam 



    • Pursue or possess professional licensure  


     


    A strong application will include evidence of: 



    • A history of an active research program in structural and/or geotechnical engineering or closely related areas of interest for this search. 



    • Practical experience in civil, structural, and/or geotechnical engineering and/or closely related fields. 



    • Responsible practice experience in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering and/or closely related fields is desired. 



    • Possession of a professional engineering license or licenses. 



    • Teaching experience as a lead instructor, particularly for a variety of classes. 



    • Experience as a teaching assistant, particularly for a variety of classes. 



    • A history of service experiences, particularly serving underdeveloped and underserved communities.

A list of three recommenders will be requested for candidates selected for virtual interviews.  Three letters of recommendation will be requested of candidates invited for in-person interviews.
