    The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant/associate professor level in the broad area of mechanical/materials engineering. The appointment would be effective as early as August 2025.


    We seek applicants with research and teaching interests related to materials/tribology including, but not limited to Tribology, Polymers and Polymer Processing, Computational Tribology/Computational Materials Science, Metallurgy, Metal Forming Tribology, Nanomaterials and Composite/Hybrid Materials. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that includes fundamental and/or applied research. The candidate should be able to teach and develop courses in the area of tribology and materials at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. An earned doctorate in Mechanical or Materials Engineering or a closely related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

     

    Oakland University is a nationally recognized doctoral research institution located on 1,1443 acres of scenic land in the cities of Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills in Oakland County, Michigan.     The Mechanical Engineering Department has 21 full time faculty members who are dedicated to excellence in research, teaching and service. The department hosts four material focused centers: the Automotive Tribology Center, NSF IUCRC – Center for Industrial Metal Forming (CIMF), Fastening and Joining Research Institute (FAJRI), and the NSF IUCRC – Center for Composite and Hybrid Materials Interfacing (CHMI), all of which are active in research.
