The College of Engineering at Wayne State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. We are seeking a dynamic researcher with expertise in advanced computer systems, embedded systems, VLSI design, digital and edge computing, and on-chip hardware security. About Wayne State’s ECE Department
Modern mobility systems have evolved into computers on wheels, with electronic systems now comprising 40% of a vehicle’s cost. Located at the heart of the automotive industry, Wayne State University offers close proximity to leading automotive companies and technology suppliers. The ECE department plays a central role in this ecosystem as one of the largest suppliers of automotive engineers at both the B.S. and M.S. levels in Michigan and elsewhere. Aligned with statewide initiatives, the ECE department’s strategic plan focuses its research and educational efforts in embedded systems, advanced computer systems, AI, and IoT for automotive applications, targeting smart devices and systems for mobility and next-generation vehicles. The department currently hosts an NSF Industry–University Cooperative Research Center focused on electric, connected and autonomous technologies for mobility (eCAT, https://www.ecat.center ). It is also a lead institution in statewide workforce training initiatives in semiconductors, mobility, and electric vehicles, working with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to provide well trained engineers with relevant and timely skillsets.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
This tenure-track position will serve as a catalyst for broad areas of electrical and computer engineering, as well as the semiconductor and the automotive industries. The opening targets faculty at the assistant professor level with strong research record in advanced computer systems and embedded systems, digital and edge computing, VLSI design, and on-chip hardware security. The successful candidate will be prepared to 1) establish a robust externally funded research program in collaboration with academic and industry partners, 2) teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, and 3) mentor graduate students and support our graduate programs in diversified areas of electrical and computer engineering such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and semiconductor engineering, with a focus on automotive electronics.
