    The Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering (OME) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU, www.fau.edu/engineering/ome/) is inviting applications for assistant professor tenure-track positions in the broad areas of structures, spacecraft structures, high performance novel composites, novel engineering materials, manufacturing, additive manufacturing, machine design, and energy conversion with a strong focus in Mechanical Engineering, with applications to Aerospace Engineering and Ocean Engineering (e.g., marine renewable energy, energy capture). Exceptional candidates in other areas of research will also be considered. Interest in these areas is consistent with FAU’s strategic plan “Race to Excellence” and aims to build on and strengthen the university’s core research strength in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering. The assistant professor will split their time between the Boca Raton and Dania Beach campuses. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis through the deadline.


    The Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering (OME) at FAU has a student body of over 600 undergraduate and 110 graduate students. The Mechanical Engineering program includes BS, MS and PhD degree programs. The OME department’s recent investments include a Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) a clean room, and several other updates. PhD programs include those with majors in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Aerospace Engineering Concentration, Mechanical Engineering with Neuro-engineering Concentration, and Ocean Engineering.     The FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science is in the top three fastest progressing engineering colleges in the nation (US News and World Report Rankings 2020-2022) and was ranked 91 for public institutions (US News and World Report Ranking 2024).
