    Civil and Environmental Engineering
    Carnegie Mellon University

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications for a faculty position at all ranks (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). We are seeking candidates with expertise in decarbonization of the built environment and/or adaptation to climate change with a strong focus on engineering resilience. The ideal candidate should be able to model natural and/or engineered systems and their response, while at the same time propose technical engineering solutions to improve adaptation, resilience and/or decarbonization efforts. We are specifically interested in candidates who are applying computational approaches, AI, digital twins, and systems modeling techniques in these areas. Through their research, education and service, candidates should also be able to support the department’s efforts in leading the world to a sustainable, resilient, equitable and inclusive future.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree (by the time of appointment) from CEE or other relevant disciplines. Interdisciplinary expertise and outlook are also highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to effectively teach core undergraduate, elective, and graduate courses, to establish and grow a strong externally-supported and internationally-recognized research program, to be a passionate mentor and advisor, and to help promote the general success of the department, College of Engineering, and the University.

Preference will be given to applications received until December 1, 2024. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled. The expected start date is August, 2025. E-mail inquiries concerning this position may be sent to the Search Committee via CEE-FacultySearch@andrew.cmu.edu.

Please submit your application at apply.interfolio.com/154848 including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, concise statements of research and teaching experience and interests, a diversity statement outlining how you have contributed to, or plan to contribute to, diversity, inclusion, and equity, up to three publications or submitted manuscripts, and a list of at least three references with contact information. If you received your PhD degree within 3 years of the application deadline, or are yet to complete your PhD, please also include a copy of your transcripts (official or unofficial). We will notify you in advance of any requests for reference letters. In your application, please also discuss potential intersections with existing faculty research areas, and alignment with existing research centers and institutes within the department or university.
