Job Description
The Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering (CEOE) at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-stream faculty position starting on September 1, 2025, or later. The position is anticipated to be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, but exceptional candidates will be given consideration at the rank of full Professor. In addition, candidates with demonstrated leadership qualities will be considered for appointment as Associate Director of the Center for Environmental Systems (CES), a leading center for environmental research, averaging $3.5 million in externally funded annual research expenditures. The successful applicant will join a cadre of committed faculty (15 tenured and tenure track, 5 research and 4 teaching) who are engaged in high-impact education and funded research programs at a level of ~$9.8M per year. CEOE is home to the renowned Davidson Laboratory and Center for Environmental Systems.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant is expected to develop a strong externally funded, globally recognized research program in their discipline and through collaborative efforts. They should also be committed to excellence in both graduate and undergraduate education and be in a position to enhance the curriculum in their area of expertise.
Required Education and Experience: The CEOE department has a distinct profile in research related to urban infrastructure systems, environmental systems and sustainability, water resources, coastal resilience and marine hydrodynamics. We are seeking candidates who have research background that complements ongoing research using novel and advanced computational methods and techniques, data science, artificial intelligence, or system-level techniques. Our particular interest is in candidates who have demonstrated capability to apply these methods/models in the environmental field and its interface with other related departmental research areas. Ideal candidates will have research background in environment and health (transport, fate and treatment of novel, emerging contaminants and pathogens in environmental systems under stress, AI and ML application at the interface of environment and related areas, innovative sensing techniques and persistent pollutants and biological agents).
