The Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) Department at Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) invites applications for a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position focused on core courses in engineering analysis, computational methods, and engineering mechanics that are crucial for both undergraduate and graduate programs in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Candidates are sought primarily at the Assistant Teaching Professor level, but mid-career and senior candidates with a strong record of sustained success in teaching will also be considered. The expected start date is Fall 2025.

At the time of appointment, applicants must hold an earned doctorate in mechanical or aerospace engineering or a related field. Teaching faculty members in the department are expected to teach three courses each in both the Fall and Spring semesters and contribute service to Illinois Tech and their profession. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and/or service endeavors.
The MMAE Department at Illinois Tech offers ABET-accredited degrees in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering, as well as a range of master’s degrees and doctoral degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering and materials science and engineering. The department has 22 full-time faculty, approximately 400 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. The Armour College of Engineering is home to six departments, emphasizes a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research by faculty and students, and is committed to inclusive excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. The main campus is located three miles from downtown Chicago and in close proximity to many industries in the greater Chicago area.
