    Job Summary


    The Lead Project Scientist conducts and supervises basic and applied research in the areas of modeling, simulation and visualization. The incumbent shall serve as principal investigator or co-principal investigator for sponsored research projects and is responsible for the proper completion of statements of work under delivery orders or contracts. The Lead Project Scientist must have demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to plan, organize, execute, monitor and lead successful research teams, which may include Post Docs and Graduate Research Assistants.

    • Ph.D. in computer science, computational simulation, computational social sciences, art, data science or related technical field, or a Masters degree in the same fields of study, with equivalent related experience.

    • Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct independent research including opportunity identification, proposal preparation and award management as project manager or principal investigator.

    • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making.

    • Demonstrated ability to adapt policies, procedures and methods to fit unusual or complex situations. The judgment to set priorities, evaluates results, and coordinates work with others.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrate ability to prepare written correspondence, technical reports, proposals and other pertinent documents as they relate to research.

    • Demonstrate ability to schedule and set priorities.


    Preferred Qualifications


    Demonstrated experience related to research or program/project management in a University or research center environment.
