  • Postdoctoral Research Fellow

    The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the area of Transportation Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will work with faculty in the Center for Transportation Innovations in Education and Research (C-TIER) on multiple interdisciplinary projects focused on emerging technologies in transportation.


    Primary research areas include—but are not limited to—connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), vehicle telematics, transportation electrification, traffic safety, virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) applications, and advanced transportation operations modeling. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to federally and state-funded research, mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, support proposal development, and publish findings in high-impact journals and conferences.


    Minimum Qualifications:




    • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Transportation Systems, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field (or dissertation defended prior to start date)




    • Strong background in transportation planning, safety, or operations




    • Demonstrated experience with travel demand modeling tools (e.g., TransCAD, Visum), traffic simulation software (e.g., VISSIM, SUMO, Synchro), and GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)




    • Programming proficiency in Python, R, MATLAB, or C++ is preferred




    • Strong communication skills and a proven track record of scholarly publications




    The position is full-time, benefits-eligible, and initially funded for 12 months with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
