Jane Clay Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio Northern University invites you to apply for a three-year faculty position to begin August 19, 2026. Contingent on sustained enrollment in the program, extension of this position will be considered at the conclusion of the contract period. This position will support our broad undergraduate mechanical engineering program, which, in addition to a general Mechanical Engineering track, includes concentration options in Aerospace, Automotive, Biomedical, Manufacturing, Sustainability, and Robotics. Candidates from any specialty area within or adjacent to mechanical engineering or our concentration fields will be considered. The candidate’s application letter should specifically address how the candidate meets the stated needs of our position within our undergraduate-serving institution.
Principle Responsibilities: The applicant must be committed to teaching excellence in undergraduate education and to cultivating a sense of community for students, faculty, and staff. Applicants must also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and are expected to take part in professional development opportunities. Teaching of introductory, college-wide courses (such as Foundation of Design, Statics, Strength of Material, etc.) as well as upper-level mechanical engineering courses is expected. ONU is a founding partner of the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network and is committed to instilling the entrepreneurial mindset in our undergraduate engineering students.
Required Skills: Industry experience, teaching experience, professional licensure, and an ability to teach both introductory and advanced courses will be viewed favorably. Candidates should be committed to advancing the knowledge and practice of engineering education pedagogy. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level and is not a tenure-track appointment.
Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, adjacent fields such as Materials, Aerospace, Biomedical, Robotics, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field such as Engineering Education (with a prior degree in mechanical engineering) or a MS degree with significant, relevant industry experience is required. ABD acceptable, but degree requirements must be completed before the date of employment.
