    Manufacturing and Industrial Systems Engineering
    Tennessee Technological University

    Job Purpose   


    The newly formed Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Systems Engineering (MISE) at Tennessee Technological University seeks to fill two full-time, nine-month, open rank, tenure-track faculty position to begin August 1, 2026.


    The College of Engineering at Tennessee Tech is undergoing major transformation and substantial growth. Over the past 5 years we have seen an 18% increase in enrollment, with enrollments in the programs of this department growing by 20%, and freshman classes 40% larger than five years ago. College research has increased from $5.7M in awards in 2019 to nearly $40M, and research expenditures increased by nearly 4 times. We have just opened the brand-new 100,000 sqft Ashraf Islam Engineering Building serving all disciplines in the college. The 81,000 sqft Advanced Construction & Manufacturing Engineering (ACME) building (eventually housing MISE) has groundbreaking scheduled for 2026. The ACME building will also house Civil Engineering Facilities and the Center for Manufacturing Research, which is funded at approximately $1.5M per year by the state in addition to externally funded grants and contracts. It will also house a start-of-the art foundry, laser welding, metal additive printers, and numerous other advanced pieces of equipment for use by students and researchers. Other line-item recurring investments in the college or related facilities total approximately $10M, demonstrating the states’ strong support of our mission.

    Essential Functions   


    Teach courses in their area of expertise in the graduate and/or undergraduate area. Develop a nationally recognized and externally funded research program and engage in scholarly activities. Participate and develop a leadership profile in professional service.


    Minimum Qualifications       


    PhD from an accredited institution in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or a closely related field. Teaching experience, scholarly or career accomplishments, and ability to create and build strong financial partnerships. Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, staff, and other on- and off-campus individuals. Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated good character, professional ethics, maturity of attitude, experience in teamwork and strong familiarity with relevant aspects of an Engineering department.


    Preferred Qualifications       


    Expertise in the broad area of engineering and engineering technology aligned with the breadth of the department’s emphasis and needs.
