    [b]University Lecturer/Senior University Lecturer in Sustainable Construction[/b]     

    The Department of Architecture is hiring a new Lecturer in Sustainable Construction. The successful candidate will be appointed to the Aalto University for University Lecturer or Senior University lecturer level in the lecture track system for a permanent and full-time position.     The position is central to advancing the teaching in the field of sustainable construction, covering bachelor and master levels.

    [b]Your role and goals[/b]    

    The lecturer works under the supervision of the professor in Sustainable Construction, and in close collaboration with professors in Housing Design, Wood Architecture, as well as professor of History of Architecture and Architectural Conservation, supporting the development and collaboration in these fields.  
     

     The lecturer will

    design and deliver courses on sustainable construction for architects, landscape architects, and interior architects from topics related to building materials, structure types, construction methods, sustainability, and circular economy, [/list]

    contribute to thesis supervision and advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, integrating high academic ambition to a supportive approach to students,    [/list]
    [list][*]
    participate in supporting research and collaboration activities with external stakeholders when relevant, and [/list]
    [list][*]
    collaborate with other professors in the department and programs at both national and international levels. [/list]


    [b]Your experience and ambitions[/b]    

    You will have:

    A master’s degree in architecture or a related field. A doctoral degree in relevant field or merits in architectural design and competitions are considered as benefits.    [/list]
    [list][*]
    Several years of experience in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels and the development of course material.   [/list]
    [list][*]
    Understanding of building materials and construction methods from an architect´s viewpoint. Specific knowledge of the Finnish context is considered as a benefit.  [/list]

    Good coordination and collaboration skills for working with stakeholders in study projects.  [/list]
    [list][*]
    Excellent spoken and written skills in English. Finnish and Swedish language skills are considered as benefits.  [/list]

    A positive and forward-looking mindset for developing and strengthening the teaching and research activities of the chair of Sustainable Construction.  [/list]

    Required skills in sustainable construction:

    Holistic insight to circular economy and life cycle thinking in the built environment.    [/list]

    In the second stage of the recruitment process, the recruitment committee will select the candidates invited to a site visit to the Department of Architecture in spring 2026. During the site visit, the candidates will be interviewed and asked to give a teaching demonstration for which instructions will be provided in advance. Applicants will also have the opportunity to meet with staff and students and to present their work more informally. During the evaluation process, we will ask external reviewers to give their assessments of the shortlisted candidates.
