    University of South Alabama

    Civil Engineering: The Department of Civil, Coastal & Environmental Engineering at the University of South Alabama (USA) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor with a record of federally funded research in microplastics and sustainable infrastructure; a record of state-funded research in pavement design; and a record of scholarly work in engineering education.  The expected start date will be January 2026.  Responsibilities will include teaching civil engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, advancing research in sustainable transportation, green asphalt technologies, and the use of recycled and reclaimed materials (including plastics), as well as mentoring students.  The successful candidate must possess strong communication skills, a deep commitment to teaching, and the ability to initiate and sustain a funded research program in their area of specialization.


    Minimum qualifications:



    • Ph.D. in civil engineering

    • Professional Engineering Licensure

    • Candidates must demonstrate an established record of research and scholarly productivity, as well as a cohesive research agenda with a clear path to achieving a full professorship.


    Desired qualifications:



    • Background and interest in teaching engineering mechanics, civil engineering materials, and pavement design.

    • Background and interest in the following research areas:

      • sustainable transportation infrastructure;

      • microplastics and nanoplastics;

      • green asphalt technologies; and

      • recycled and reclaimed materials evaluation and reuse



    • Possessing a LEED AP credential


    Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.  The department offers BSCE and MSCE degrees.  The BSCE program is ABET-EAC accredited and the College of Engineering offers a Ph.D. program in Systems Engineering that caters to all areas of engineering.
