    Auburn University

The Applied Fluids Research Group (AFRG) at Auburn University has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of Experimental BioFluid Mechanics. The research group led by PI – Vrishank Raghav has multidisciplinary research interests ranging from aerospace, biomedical, bio-inspired, and wind engineering with currently funded projects related to biomedical flows, rotating flows, internal flows, plume-surface interactions, droplet-laden flows, and more. Current sponsors include NSFNIHNASA, AvMC, and ARO. More information can be found at the following webpage – https://aub.ie/afrg

The primary focus of this position is to support ongoing biofluid mechanics-related research on fluid-structure interactions of heart valves (NSF and Industry funded) with opportunities to contribute to other ongoing projects in experimental fluid mechanics. Responsibilities will include planning and leading experiments including experimental facility design, diagnostic development, data acquisition, and data analysis; mentoring and support of graduate and undergraduate students; preparation of peer-reviewed journal articles, conference publications, and technical reports; presentation of work at professional conferences; and participation in the development of new research ideas and research proposals. Candidates will also be highly encouraged to use this opportunity to gain experience with new experimental techniques, such as light-field imaging, and/or new fields of research.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline and must have an outstanding academic record. The successful candidate will have a fundamental knowledge of fluid dynamics, experience in experimental fluid mechanics, and application of experimental diagnostic techniques including PIV. Prior knowledge of biofluid mechanics is desired but not necessary. In addition, knowledge of software such as SOLIDWORKS (CAD), LabVIEW, MATLAB, and Tecplot is desired. The candidate will also possess strong oral and written communication skills.
