The Civil Engineering (CE) Department at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for three (03) open rank professor positions to start Fall 2019 semester to meet the needs of the newly approved Masters in Civil Engineering and the growing student enrollments of the CE department of 540 undergraduate students with fifteen faculty. The program has needs for faculty with expertise in Structures, Transportation, Materials/Pavements, and Construction Management. Minimum Qualifications : Candidates at both the Assistant and Associate Professor levels will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching, service, and research capabilities of the Civil Engineering Department. Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability (or a well-designed plan) to develop and maintain a funded research program, to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects, and to actively participate in department activities. Candidates should show evidence that they can collaborate with faculty across disciplines and can involve both undergraduate and graduate students in research. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (at least conferred before the start date) or in a closely related field from an accredited university. Experienced candidates with a history of successful teaching and research may be considered for positions at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
Preferred Qualifications: The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in the needed areas as well as professional practice experience or faculty experience. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred

Additional Information: The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
