Departmental Overview

This R & D Engineer position involves engineering support as part of a research projects. Engineering activities include literature review relating to research, analysis of engineered systems, particularly water and wastewater systems and other infrastructure systems, and documentation.


55% Under direct supervision, performs engineering and mathematical calculations and analysis of environmental and economic data and in analysis of engineering problems, particularly in water and wastewater systems and other infrastructure systems.

15% Under direct supervision, performs literature review of engineering problem solving and decision making.

15% Acquires skills to independently perform more complex engineering analyses.

15% Develops formal engineering reports and periodic status reports.

Required Qualifications

This is a six-month, 80% time contract

  • Advanced knowledge associated with performing engineering calculations.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the field.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in Life Cycle Assessment.
  • Skills in problem solving for industry-based questions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water and wastewater systems analysis.
  • Requires analytical skills, and must exercise strong attention to detail.
  • Requires demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and judgment skills to conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in related area.

Salary & Benefits

  • The hourly salary range designated for this position: $26.53; however, starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
  • This is a six-month contract position. Contract positions may be extended based on operational demand. Contract positions are eligible to participate in the health and welfare programs offered by UC Berkeley.
