Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Position in Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) Department at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago

The Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) Department at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, IL invites applications to fill one non-tenure teaching position at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. The selected candidate is expected to teach three courses a semester, with some departmental service activities that may include but not limited to student advising and committee activities as assigned by the department chair. The selected candidate also may have the opportunity to teach in the summer with additional compensation. The initial contract term for this position, scheduled to begin in the Fall, 2021 academic year, is one year, and the Department expects such contract to be renewed accordingly subject to satisfactory performance of the selected candidate and the availability of funding for the position.

Pursuant to IIT’s Faculty Handbook, the rank of Lecturer includes a one- or two-year appointment. There is a durational limitation on this appointment such that a contract may be renewed for a total 4 years. The rank of Senior Lecturer as applied to this position includes an appointment of one to five years in duration and there is no limit on the number of renewals. The selected candidate’s rank will be determined commensurate with experience.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related fields. Prior teaching and/or industry experience is desirable. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.

Areas of expertise and teaching interest for the position include one or more of the following: fluid dynamics, aerodynamics/aeromechanics and/or thermal sciences, aircraft/spacecraft design and/or mechanical/thermal design, and/or mechanics. Expertise in experimental methods, instrumentation, data collection and analysis and experience in handling laboratory classes is specifically desired.

The MMAE Department at IIT offers ABET accredited B.S. degrees in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and materials science and engineering, as well as master’s degrees and doctoral degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering and materials science and engineering.
