The School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (CEES) within the Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Infrastructure/Civil Engineering Materials. It is anticipated that this position will complement the existing structural engineering group’s expertise in sustainable and resilient civil infrastructure and candidates should have expertise related to infrastructure/civil engineering materials. While other areas will be considered, preferred candidates will have a research focus in (1) polymer synthesis, characterization, and data analysis for new material design and development and/or (2) development, manufacture, and performance of structural materials-including fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP), pultruded FRP composites, FRP reinforcement for concrete structures, or polymer-based admixtures and coatings for concrete. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate not only with CEES faculty but also with materials researchers across the university as well as those in the OU Health Sciences Center. In particular, the successful candidate will be encouraged and supported in building strong collaborations with materials researchers in the following departments: Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering; Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Chemistry and Biochemistry; Construction Science; Geology and Geophysics; and Petroleum Engineering.

CEES is currently comprised of 21 faculty and four degree programs in civil engineering, environmental engineering, architectural engineering, and environmental science, with a combined enrollment of 425 B.S., 51 M.S., and 27 Ph.D. students. In 2018, CEES launched two online M.S. programs-one in civil engineering and one in hydrology/water security-with a current enrollment of 250 remote M.S. students. OU is a Carnegie-R1 comprehensive public research university known for excellence in teaching, research, and serving the educational, cultural, economic, and healthcare needs of the state, region, and nation.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in civil engineering, materials engineering, or a related field at the start of the appointment. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is desirable. The successful applicant is expected to assist the department in offering core and elective undergraduate courses, as well as graduate courses in their area of specialty, with a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and inclusive pedagogy. They will also have the opportunity to teach in our burgeoning online program. The successful applicant is expected to develop an active research program leading to national and international recognition. CEES will serve as the academic home for the successful candidate, but joint appointments with other academic units will be considered, depending on research interests and expertise.

OU is committed to achieving a diverse, equitable, and inclusive university community by embracing each person’s unique contributions, background, and perspectives. OU recognizes that fostering an inclusive environment for all, with particular attention to the needs of historically marginalized populations, is vital to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of our institutional mission. This enhances the OU experience for all students, faculty, and staff and for the communities we engage. The GCoE holds strong the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We seek candidates who contribute to fostering an inclusive culture in all aspects of faculty responsibility, including within the classroom, the academic community, and within their professional commitments.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests (no more than 3 pages each), a statement on professional experience and values toward diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the contact information for five references.
