The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEEN) invites applications for two non-tenure-track (“career-line”) faculty positions to teach courses related to its B.S. and M.S. Construction Engineering degrees with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2019. These positions are 9-month, full-time appointments during Fall and Spring semesters responsible for 18-credit hours of instruction per academic year. Successful applicants must demonstrate their ability to provide career guidance to undergraduate and graduate students and teach engineering classes covering a broad range of construction curricula. Faculty will also be expected to engage in service activities such as attending necessary committee meetings and initiating, supervising and mentoring construction-related student chapters such as CMAA and AGC.

Positions in any area of construction will be considered although priority will be given to those with academic and professional experience in commercial construction; preferably vertical and façade construction including BIM applications. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Construction Engineering or in a closely related field. Professional engineering licensure is highly desirable. We anticipate filling one position at the Assistant Professor Lecturer level and one at a more senior level. The senior level candidate must have full-time experience and decision-making responsibilities in the U.S. construction industry and 10-years of progressively responsible industrial experience.

As part of the College of Engineering, faculty specializing in Construction Engineering maintain strong interdisciplinary collaborations with other CVEEN faculty. This is a new emphasis at the University of Utah stemming from tremendous growth in the construction field as well as strong support of local construction industry. Currently, we are offering an undergraduate B.S. degree and a coursework only M.S. degree in Construction Engineering. We expect the successful applicants to develop online M.S. course content in the near future. Additional summer teaching and research assignments and compensation are possible as student demand and faculty interests dictate.
