Lecturer (10 Months)

Required Qualifications

A PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline. An MS degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 15 years experience in industry will be considered, in lieu of a PhD degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in the areas of machine design, dynamics and control, and/or fundamentals of mechanical engineering. Previous teaching experience.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University is searching for a full time non-tenure track lecturer. The lecturer position is anticipated to start in the Fall 2019, for one year (10 month) temporary, renewable contract.

The incumbent is expected to carry a teaching load of up to 4 courses for the fall semester, and up to 4 courses for the spring semester, subject to the faculty course-load policy within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In addition to course instruction, all full time faculty are expected to advise students, assist with ABET accreditation processes, attend faculty meetings and other department events, and provide program support. Successful applicants must be prepared to contribute by assisting with curriculum development as needed, as well as instructing both graduate and undergraduate, required and elective courses.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. This is a one year (10 month) temporary, renewable position. Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2019.
