Position Duties
The Department of Engineering at Loyola University Maryland invites individuals committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching to join the department in a lecturer position (full-time non-tenure track faculty). A master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering or a closely related field is required; a Ph.D. is preferred. Applicants should feel comfortable teaching a variety of electrical, computer, and general engineering courses ranging from the introductory level (e.g., Introduction to Programming, Linear and Digital Circuits, Electronics) to the more advanced (e.g., Control Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Microprocessors, Object-Oriented Programming). Candidates with expertise in control systems, robotics, mechatronics, signal processing, or bioelectrical systems are of particular interest.

The teaching load will be 4 courses per semester during the fall and spring with no required summer teaching. The candidate will assist the department in curricular development, review, and assessment; will advise undergraduate students; and contribute to Loyola University Maryland’s educational mission via service at the department, school, and university levels. There are no research requirements, though opportunities for collaboration with other faculty members on projects or research may present themselves. Teaching faculty are full members of the department.

Required Qualifications
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to undergraduate education, and demonstrate the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching and a Master’s of electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university is required. Additionally, the ability to teach various electrical and computer engineering courses is required.
Preferred Qualifications
We seek candidates with the following:
  • Ph.D. in electrical or computer engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Teaching experience in university-level electrical or computer engineering courses.
  • Industrial experience in electrical or computer engineering—especially experience in design.
  • Control systems, robotics, mechatronics, signal processing, or bioelectrical systems.
  • An appreciation and/or engagement in high-impact teaching practices.
  • Commitment to the goals of education in the Jesuit tradition.
  • Commitment to approaches for creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom.
  • Experience in mentoring and advising undergraduate engineering students or students in similar disciplines.
  • Ability to teach Senior Capstone Courses.
  • Willingness to mentor and advise engineering student clubs.
